As the calendar year winds down, many organizations shift their focus to closing out projects, preparing financials, and planning for the new year. Unfortunately, cybercriminals take advantage of this busy period. The surge in online activity, reduced staff availability, and increased reliance on remote tools make the holiday season a prime time for cyberattacks. Implementing a strong year-end cybersecurity checklist for businesses is essential to protecting your data, minimizing risk, and preparing your IT infrastructure for 2026. With proactive planning, small businesses can stay secure during the holiday season and enter the new year with a stronger cybersecurity posture.

Below are the most important areas to address when reviewing your systems, preparing for seasonal threats, and planning ahead.

Strengthening Your Year-End Cybersecurity Checklist for Businesses

As your team prepares for year-end operations, it’s crucial to evaluate existing security protocols and identify any vulnerabilities. Start by reviewing account access and permissions. Employees who have changed roles, left the organization, or no longer need certain system privileges should have access removed immediately. Unnecessary or outdated accounts are common entry points for attackers.

Next, review software updates and security patches. Outdated operating systems, third-party applications, and plugins can expose your business to cyber threats. Ensuring all devices and platforms are up to date helps close known security gaps.

Backups also play a central role in any year-end cybersecurity checklist for businesses. Confirm that backups are running consistently, test restoration procedures, and make sure key data is stored both securely and redundantly. Year-end is an ideal time to validate your disaster recovery plan and ensure your team understands the proper steps in case of an emergency.

Multi-factor authentication should also be required for all administrative accounts and any system containing sensitive information. Password audits, endpoint monitoring, and firewall reviews further strengthen your organization’s defense as you move into the new year.

Holiday Cybersecurity Threats for Small Businesses

The holiday season brings a sharp increase in cybercrime due to heightened online transactions, staff shortages, and relaxed monitoring. Understanding the most common holiday cybersecurity threats for small businesses helps you prepare more effectively and reduce your risk during this vulnerable time.

Phishing attacks tend to spike during the holidays as attackers use festive themes, fake shipping notices, and urgent fundraising requests to lure victims into clicking malicious links. Training employees to recognize suspicious messages and encouraging them to verify unexpected communications are key preventative measures.

Ransomware attacks also increase during the winter months because businesses are often short-staffed or working with reduced monitoring teams. Cybercriminals exploit these gaps by targeting endpoint devices, unsecured Wi-Fi networks, and outdated software systems. Ensuring that all systems are patched and all data is backed up significantly reduces the damage ransomware can cause.

Online shopping scams, fraudulent invoices, and fake vendor requests also become more common. Small businesses should take extra care when approving payments or responding to financial requests, especially those sent outside normal business hours. Monitoring network activity closely during the holiday season helps detect suspicious behavior early. Encouraging employees to avoid using public Wi-Fi, requiring strong passwords, and restricting remote access unless necessary can also help safeguard your systems during this high-risk period.

Building Effective IT Planning for 2026

As the year ends, forward-thinking IT planning for 2026 ensures your business enters the new year with strong, scalable, and secure technology systems. Start by evaluating your current infrastructure. Identify aging hardware, overloaded servers, or outdated tools that may impact productivity or pose security risks.

Budgeting for 2026 should include investments in cybersecurity tools such as advanced firewalls, email security filters, updated endpoint protection, and cloud monitoring services. Businesses should also consider long-term growth plans. Expanding teams, new software platforms, or increased remote work requirements may call for stronger networking capabilities and improved cloud integrations.

IT planning for 2026 should also involve reviewing your compliance obligations. Industries such as healthcare, finance, and retail must meet strict security standards. Conducting a compliance audit now ensures your systems meet all necessary requirements before regulations change in the new year.

Finally, consider implementing or updating your incident response plan. Clearly outlining roles, communication steps, and remediation procedures will help your team respond quickly if a cybersecurity issue arises.

Creating a secure foundation for 2026 requires a blend of strategic investment, staff training, and continuous monitoring. When combined, these efforts help protect your business and support long-term stability. Year-end preparation is one of the most important opportunities to strengthen your organization’s cybersecurity defenses. By implementing a comprehensive year-end cybersecurity checklist for businesses, preparing for holiday cybersecurity threats for small businesses, and building proactive IT planning for 2026, you safeguard your organization during one of the most vulnerable times of the year.

Getting your employees setup to work from home really just boils down to two IT areas: Phone and Data.

Phone:

With the advent of a Voice over IP (VoIP) phones, your can give your employee an office phone that they can plug right into their home router, giving them the presence of being in the same building as everyone else. Users will be able to handle the incoming call flow flow just as easily as if they were in the office as well as make outbound calls with the presence of your office main phone number.

This helps “keep up appearances” with your clients and customers as well as giving your employees that peace of mind of not needing to share their personal cell phone number with the customers and vendors that they deal with throughout the day.

A system like this is simple to setup and can cost you as little as $15 / month / extension.

Data:

Just allowing your employee to make and receive phones calls is not enough. Being able to access the company files and applications is the other part of this equation. There are a few ways that this can be accomplished:

VPN

A virtual private network (VPN) is the most widely used way of accessing a corporate network remotely. By loading a simple client on any internet connected computer, you can securely provide access to your company network from either a mobile computer that you provide or from your employee’s personal home pc.

Although this sounds simple enough, the cost to implement and license a proper VPN appliance can be high if you plan on providing this to many users. And all this remote traffic to your internal LAN can tax your office internet quite a bit as well. And lastly, you now have to make sure that your employees home network and internet connections are up for the task for all this additional VPN traffic. This may require them to upgrade their connection to higher speeds, which also comes at a higher cost.

Remote Screen Viewing

Another alternative to VPN is a remote screen viewing application such as LogMeIn or GotToMyPC. Applications such as these allow users to connect to and view their office computer screen from any internet connected computer, even a smart phone or tablet. Once connected, they can see their familiar desktop and access all the files and applications that they normally would if they were sitting at their office desk. These types of remote access applications are relatively inexpensive, anywhere from $10/month to $30/month. However, sometimes we find that users complain that the resolution is stretched or that the text may be too small. This is especially true if the office computer monitor is real large and the computer your are using to remotely access your office computer has a smaller monitor. The result is sometimes a resolution where the text is very small and hard to read.

Private Cloud File Server

Another type of remote access solution that has emerged just over the past couple years is a private DropBox like service called CenterStack. By way of a small piece of software called a “server agent”, that gets loaded onto your file server, you can provide your users an easy to use web interface that has the look and feel of DropBox while giving access to all the file shares that are on your corporate LAN. This allows your employee to edit and create files within your existing file server from a remote computer’s web browser. There is no need to install any special software on the computer. As long as they have a web browser, they can work with their files. You also can provide additional DropBox like storage to your users without having to worry about hard drive space on your file server. You just pay for how much extra storage you want. And, if your users still want to work off of a traditional mapped drive, you can install a Windows client software application that will also give them that functionality. It is probably the most flexible remote access software that we have seen since the advent of the remote screen viewing application.

The cost is very affordable to get started, just $15/user/month. And there is much less for your IT to manage as the service is hosted in the cloud and you no longer need to worry about the reliability and robustness of your employee’s home network or internet connection. Low speed connections and slow computers have much less of an effect on the speed and productivity of this type of service. In fact if you loose your internet connection, this type of service will actually allow you to work offline and sync up your changes to the server later!

So as you can see, there are many ways to get your users working from home in a productive and cost effective way. And both parties, the business owner and the employee, will feel good about this scenario. Employers will know that their employees will still be generating profits for the business, and employees will have the benefit of knowing that they can still show value when working from home and maintain job security.

In today’s fast-paced business environment, having a reliable and efficient IT infrastructure is crucial for success. Small and medium-sized businesses often face the challenge of building and maintaining an in-house IT department, which can be both expensive and resource-intensive. This is where outsourcing IT placement comes into play. Outsourcing your IT placement to a trusted partner like Jaydien Network Solutions can offer numerous benefits that can positively impact your business. Today, we’ll talk about the five compelling reasons to consider outsourcing your IT placement.

1. Expertise and Specialization

When you outsource your IT placement, you gain access to a team of experts who specialize in finding the right IT professionals for your business. IT placement agencies like us have an in-depth knowledge of the IT industry, its trends, and the skills needed for various roles. We can quickly identify the most qualified candidates who match your specific requirements. This expertise ensures that you’re hiring the best talent available, which is essential for your IT department’s success.

2. Time and Resource Savings

Recruiting and hiring IT professionals can be a time-consuming and resource-intensive process. It involves posting job listings, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and conducting background checks. By outsourcing IT placement, you can offload these tasks to experts who have a streamlined and efficient recruitment process. This allows your internal team to focus on core business activities and strategic initiatives.

3. Access to a Diverse Talent Pool

IT placement agencies have a vast network of IT professionals, including candidates with various specializations, skill levels, and experiences. This means you have access to a diverse talent pool that can meet your specific needs. Whether you’re looking for a cybersecurity expert, a network administrator, or a software developer, outsourcing your IT placement ensures you have a broader range of qualified candidates to choose from.

4. Reduced Risk and Faster Onboarding

Hiring the wrong IT professional can be costly and disruptive to your business. Outsourcing IT placement minimizes this risk by providing access to pre-screened candidates who have undergone thorough evaluations. This reduces the likelihood of a bad hire. Additionally, IT placement agencies can facilitate a faster onboarding process, ensuring that new hires can start contributing to your organization’s success sooner.

5. Cost-Effective Solution

Building and maintaining an in-house IT department involves significant expenses, including salaries, benefits, training, and infrastructure. Outsourcing your IT placement can be a cost-effective alternative. You only pay for the IT professionals you need when you need them, reducing overhead costs associated with a full-time, in-house IT team.
This article will show you step-by-step how to configure your DC with an external time source and to force all your AD clients to sync with your DC.

If you’re reading this article then you probably already know that Active Directory can’t work correctly if the clock is not synchronized around domain controllers and member machines.

This article will show you how to properly setup time sync on your domain.

If your DC is VM on HyperV, then you first need to make sure that the VM is not syncing it’s time with the Hypervisor.

Log onto your HyperV server and go to the settings of your VM, then click on Integration Service. Uncheck Time synchronization.

Now Lets Make Sure the DC is Setup To Sync to External Time Server.

From your PDC, open the prompt as administrator and type:

<xmp>w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:yourNTPserver,0x8 /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
w32tm /resync /rediscover
net stop w32time && net start w32time </xmp>

Where “yourNTPserver” should be the address of the external NTP source you want set up, it could be a pool in the Internet or your internal NTP server.

Note the “,0x8” is part of the command and it will set the PDC to force sending client requests to the specified NTP server, and not other different type of requests like symmetric, which could cause PDC to do not receive correct NTP answers.

Confirm that your time settings are correct:

<xmp>w32tm /query /statu</xmp>

Force all other DCs to rediscover the new time server by configuring it to Domain Hierarchy with the commands below

 <xmp>w32tm /config /syncfromflags:DOMHIER /update
w32tm /resync /nowait
net stop w32time && net start w32time</xmp>

Check settings after a minute, it should show your PDC/Time Server:

The correct and expected output should be the PDC/NTP with Stratum = 3 and all other DCs with Stratum = 4

<xmp>w32tm /query /status</xmp>

Once all DC’s have had the time commands issued, check the NTP settings for them with the command below:

<xmp>w32tm /monitor</xmp>

Your client computers should update automatically when the sync internal expires, but you can manually force a sync by issues a sync command.

<xmp>w32tm /sync</xmp>

Cybersecurity rules are changing for companies that work with the U.S. Department of Defense. If your business is part of the defense supply chain, or if you hope to win government contracts in the future, you may have started hearing more about NIST standards and the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification, also known as CMMC 2.0.

For many businesses, these requirements can feel confusing. There are security controls to follow, systems to review, and documentation that needs to be prepared before a company can qualify for certain contracts. The good news is that you do not have to handle this process alone. With the right IT support, moving from NIST guidelines to CMMC readiness becomes much easier.

At Jaydien Network Solutions, we often work with businesses that are unsure where to begin. Our goal is to help companies strengthen their cybersecurity while also preparing their systems for future compliance requirements.

Understanding How NIST and CMMC Work Together

One of the most common questions we hear from contractors is about the difference between NIST and CMMC. Many people think they are two completely different systems, but they are actually closely connected.

The CMMC 2.0 framework was created by the Department of Defense to make sure contractors protect sensitive government information. Much of the structure used in CMMC comes from the security controls listed in the NIST SP 800 171 framework.

In simple terms, if your company already follows NIST cybersecurity practices, you are already moving in the right direction toward CMMC compliance.

CMMC 2.0 includes three levels of cybersecurity protection. Each level depends on the type of information your company handles.

Level 1 focuses on basic cybersecurity practices and usually applies to businesses that manage Federal Contract Information. These companies complete an annual self assessment.

Level 2 applies to businesses that work with Controlled Unclassified Information. This level follows the NIST 800 171 guidelines and may require a third party assessment depending on the contract.

Level 3 is designed for organizations handling the most sensitive data and requires stronger security protections.

For many businesses, the first step is simply understanding where they currently stand. A cybersecurity review or gap analysis helps identify what parts of your system already meet the standards and where improvements may be needed.

If you are unsure what type of data your company handles or whether your network meets the requirements, an IT assessment can help bring clarity.

Why Many Businesses Struggle With Compliance

Cybersecurity compliance involves much more than installing antivirus software or changing a few passwords. CMMC preparation requires several layers of protection across your entire technology environment.

Businesses must secure their networks, manage who has access to certain systems, monitor devices for unusual activity, keep software updated, and maintain documentation that explains how their systems are protected. These requirements can be difficult for companies that do not have a dedicated cybersecurity team.

This is where having a trusted IT partner becomes valuable.

At Jaydien Network Solutions, we help businesses strengthen their IT infrastructure and improve cybersecurity practices. This can include securing networks, protecting devices, managing updates, and monitoring systems for potential threats. By improving the foundation of your technology environment, your business is better prepared to meet security requirements like NIST and CMMC.

Instead of trying to figure everything out alone, companies can follow a clear plan with professional guidance. This helps reduce confusion and makes the path to compliance much more manageable.

If your organization is starting to think about CMMC requirements, this is a great time to review your current systems and identify possible gaps.

How the Right IT Support Makes Compliance Easier

Preparing for CMMC should not be treated as a one time task. Cybersecurity is something that must be maintained over time as technology evolves and new threats appear.

Working with an experienced IT provider allows businesses to build stronger security systems while also preparing for compliance requirements. We help companies identify where sensitive data is stored, improve network protection, and implement tools that help support cybersecurity best practices.

Having the right support also allows business owners to focus on running their company while we help manage the technical side of security and system protection.

If your business plans to continue working with the Department of Defense or wants to remain competitive in government contracts, strengthening cybersecurity now is an important step.

If you are unsure where your systems stand or want help preparing for future requirements, our team is here to help. Contact us today to schedule a consultation or IT assessment. We can review your current technology, identify security gaps, and help your business move closer to meeting modern cybersecurity and compliance standards.

What I’ve found to be the easiest and straightforward way to perform the adoption task is to just SSH into the device and issue the proper set-inform command.

There a couple things you’ll need to know ahead of time:

SSH authentication is enabled in your controller (see screenshot below).

The IP address of the device – This can be found by issuing an arp -a command from the Windows CMD prompt or by using an IP scanner tool to find the IP address of your device by using the MAC-ID. By default the devices are set to DHCP out of the box.

The device credentials – If the device is factory defaulted, then the username is ubnt and the password is ubnt. If your device is not factory defaulted, then you can obtain your device credentials by navigating to the Device Authentication section of your controller Site Settings.

One you have the IP address and the credentials, open your favorite SSH client and establish a connection to your device using the discovered IP address and the proper credentials.

Once connected, you can simply issue the set-inform command to adopt the device into your controller:

<xmp>set-inform http://FQDN:8080/inform</xmp>

Make sure to replace FQDN with your specific IP Address or Fully Qualified Domain Name.

Once that command is issued, issue the save command.

<xmp>save</xmp>

When the set-inform command is successfully issued, you can issue the info command to verify that your device is using the correct inform URL, as shown below. My URL is: unifi.jaydien.com

<xmp>info</xmp>

StorageRoomSwitch16Port-US.6.2.11# info

Model: US-16-150W
Version: 6.2.11.13822
MAC Address: f0:9f:c2:df:4e:4e
IP Address: 192.168.10.200
Hostname: StorageRoomSwitch16Port
Uptime: 2969614 seconds

Usernames and passwords are a great way to protect your information in public workspaces. However, if you’re using your computer in a safe place logging in all the time can get tedious. If you want to cut through all that red tape and get to your desktop screen faster, auto logins are the answer.

How to Enable Auto Login with the Windows 10 Registry in 4 Easy Steps

Changing your registry is never a simple process and can have negative effects if done incorrectly. So before you start these steps, you should first create a recovery point on your computer.

Step 1 – Access The Registry

Click on the Start menu and select Run.
Step 3 – Locate the Propper Registry Key

Step 4 – Add The Following Keys

Go to the Edit menu, select New and then String Value.

Running a restaurant or retail business at the Jersey Shore comes with unique opportunities and challenges. Seasonal tourism, weekend crowds, and summer rushes can turn a quiet weekday into a high-volume sales day in minutes. In these moments, technology is not just a convenience. A reliable point-of-sale system becomes essential to keeping operations smooth, customers happy, and revenue flowing. Jaydien Network Solutions work closely with Jersey Shore businesses to make sure their POS systems are prepared long before the busy season begins.

When systems are slow, outdated, or unreliable, even the best staff and products can’t make up for the disruption. That’s why planning ahead is critical.

Handling High-Volume Seasonal Traffic Without Slowdowns

The Jersey Shore is unlike many other business environments. A restaurant may serve double or triple its usual customer count during summer weekends or holiday events. Retail shops often see similar spikes when tourists flood boardwalks and downtown areas. In these high-pressure moments, POS performance matters more than ever.

We help businesses prepare for these surges by ensuring POS systems can handle increased transaction volume without freezing, lagging, or crashing. A slow system can create long lines, frustrated customers, and lost sales. Reliable hardware, stable network connections, and properly configured software are all part of keeping things running smoothly.

Seasonal traffic also puts more stress on internet connectivity and internal networks. Our team evaluates network infrastructure alongside POS systems to prevent bottlenecks during peak hours. Preparing early allows businesses to enter the busy season confident that their technology won’t be the weak link.

If your business relies on fast transactions during peak times, now is the time to schedule an evaluation and avoid surprises when traffic increases.

Speed, Reliability, and Security at the Point of Sale

Speed at checkout is not just about convenience. It directly impacts customer experience and staff efficiency. In restaurants, delayed payments slow table turnover. In retail, long lines often lead customers to abandon purchases. A reliable POS system ensures transactions are processed quickly and consistently.

Beyond speed, reliability is critical. Systems that crash or go offline during business hours can bring operations to a halt. We focus on reducing downtime through proactive monitoring, regular updates, and reliable configurations that support daily operations even during heavy use.

Security is equally important, especially for businesses handling hundreds of transactions per day. POS systems process sensitive customer data, making them a target for cyber threats. Our approach includes securing networks, protecting payment data, and helping businesses stay compliant with industry standards. A secure POS system protects both the business and its customers.

We work to ensure that speed, reliability, and security are built into POS systems, not added as an afterthought. If your current setup feels outdated or unreliable, contacting us for a review can help identify risks before they become costly problems.

Preparing Before the Busy Season Starts

One of the most common mistakes businesses make is waiting until problems occur to address their POS systems. At the Jersey Shore, the busy season arrives quickly, and once it starts, there is little room for downtime or upgrades. Preparing ahead of time makes all the difference.

We help businesses assess their current POS environment, identify weaknesses, and make improvements before foot traffic increases. This may include upgrading hardware, optimizing network performance, improving security measures, or training staff on system best practices.

Preparation also means having support in place when issues arise. Knowing that help is available quickly provides peace of mind during the busiest times of the year. Our goal is to act as a trusted technology partner so business owners can focus on serving customers rather than troubleshooting systems.

If you operate a restaurant or retail business at the Jersey Shore, now is the ideal time to plan ahead. Scheduling a consultation allows potential issues to be addressed before they impact sales and customer experience.

Reliable POS systems are not optional in a high-volume, seasonal environment. They are a foundation for smooth operations, satisfied customers, and protected revenue. Jaydien Network Solutions is committed to helping Jersey Shore businesses prepare, secure, and optimize their POS systems so they are ready for whatever the season brings. Contact today to schedule an appointment and ensure your business is fully prepared before the next rush hits.
